Paradoxes and Shifts for Leading Millennials

Paradoxes and Shifts for Leading Millennials

In the midst of my Masters in Transformational Leadership at Bethel University, I attend a National Speaker Association Conference in Orlando, Florida. As I’m taking the shuttle from the airport to the convention center, I strike up a conversation with my seat mate, Dr. Kent Keith, who was also attending the conference.Since he’s a speaker & author, I ask him about his core message.  When he said it was the Paradoxical Commandments I was astounded!  Why?  At that time, my key project for my masters was writing an eBook, Paradoxical Leadership, integrating the core concepts of Transformational Leadership.

Leadership Shift: Paradoxical Wisdom for Transformational Leaders in These Times of Change.I asked for permission to publish the Commandments. I created a plaque to give to my clients and still have this on a shelf in my office.

So, since we started the year talking about paradoxes: 2017 – Numerous Challenges Will Provide Leaders with Great Opportunities & Paradoxical Leadership Inspiration 2017, I thought that you would find these commandments to be challenging as you start strong in 2017.

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M.
KeithPeople are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
