AI Leadership Strategy Starts with 5 Mindsets, Not Just 1 Smarter Tool
Wherever I go around the globe, I see the same leadership development trend: leaders are struggling to find their footing in a whirlwind of change. As the AI revolution gathers speed, struggles are intensifying.
- In Europe, with global business executives…
The Notre-Dame in Paris
- In Tanzania, with education leaders…
- In Asia, with high-performing sales teams…
I hear the same cry for help – seeking insights on how to navigate a new set of leadership responsibilities.
I believe that’s why my most popular article is: 5 Mindsets to Transform Your Leadership Strategy and Results.
That’s why this eBook is in hot demand: 5 Success Mindsets to Create Breakthrough Results.
What are those 5 Success Mindsets?
What’s the 1 leadership question that activates all 5 Success Mindsets? That expands your leadership influence?
Before we dive into the magic of this 1 power-packed leadership question, I’m wondering how you’re dealing with your leadership responsibilities during this Era of Exponential Growth? How are you handling these character-testing questions that AI Disruption sparks:
- Vision: What values will I champion as AI reshapes how we work??
- Strategy: What possibilities might I explore to ensure technology serves people—not replaces them?
- Aligning: What strengths, insights, or virtues must I strengthen and align in my team as we navigate this AI era?
- Motivate: What actions will I take today to build trust and momentum into our AI journey?
Underneath all these questions is a deeper one: Will we lead AI—or will it lead us?
That’s why strong inner character matters more than ever. That’s why YOUR leadership matters NOW, more than ever!
So, let’s dive into why there’s so much power packed into this 1 question – “What might I do to achieve the desired results (and make a positive difference)?”
5 Transformative Mindsets are embedded in this 1 Question
Let’s unpack this question as a tool to grow your leadership influence. How might you strengthen inner character and outer impact through these five
-
What – Visionaries Cultivate an Accountability Mindset
In an AI-powered world, automation often outpaces human input. Character is what keeps leadership human.
Visionary leaders know that accountability is the foundation of that character. When Next-Gen leaders start with “what,” they shift from blame (“Who caused this?” or “Why is this happening?”) to responsibility.
When stuck in tech-driven change, your Next-Gen leader may ask, “Why is this happening to me?” That’s when I gently redirect them to focus on responsibility, vs. blame: “What might you do to strengthen yourself despite these challenges?”
Top Tip: Coach your Next-Gen leader to replace “Who” and “Why” with “What” questions. This simple shift builds personal accountability. This is critical when AI outputs challenge human judgment.
2. Might – Strategists Spark Innovative Mindsets
The word “might” unlocks possibility. It encourages leaders to explore new ideas to formulate a successful strategy to achieve the vision. This is an essential skill in a rapidly digitized world.
AI can deliver answers in seconds. But it’s human creativity that sparks innovation and leadership growth. Invite Next-Gen leaders to explore many paths—not only the obvious one.
What might you do when the teams you coach face a sudden drop in engagement? I ask young leaders to brainstorm three creative ways to reconnect. Lean into the world “might” – you’re not asking for a solution you’ll implement immediately. Instead, you’re inviting creative brainstorming. In my experience, if there are three possible ideas, we will eventually reach one good, implementable idea in order to solve the problem.
Top Tip: Invite your Next-Gen leaders to think of three potential solutions to any challenge. This builds their creative thinking muscles. That’s something AI can’t replicate. It helps them build confidence in times of uncertainty.
3. I – Coaches Align Ownership Mindsets
An ownership mindset means taking full responsibility—not just for results, but for the process, effort, and intent.

The Great Wall of China
In a time when AI handles much of the heavy lifting, strong character ensures leaders don’t outsource their ethics, empathy, or emotional intelligence.
As a coaching leader, you take ownership of both your response and who you’re becoming. Invite your up-and-coming leaders to do the same and to reflect:
“What gifts, skills, or insight do I bring to this challenge? How might I make a positive impact?”
Top Tip: Ask leaders to do a “talent inventory” before relying on AI tools. Human insight—rooted in self-awareness—is irreplaceable in building long-term trust.
4. Do – Change Agents Motivate Action Mindsets
AI offers analysis, but bold decisions and inspiration still require human leadership and action.
An action mindset moves leaders from theory to traction. It means applying insights, not just discussing them.
I often ask young leaders, “What did you do this week that pushed your comfort zone? What made you stretch?” Why do I ask this change-agent question? Because growth doesn’t happen by watching or waiting. It happens when we take the first uncomfortable step.
Top Tip: Encourage daily action—even small steps—toward stretch goals. Leaders with strong character act with purpose, even when outcomes aren’t guaranteed.
5. To Achieve the Desired Result (and make a positive impact) – Leaders Strengthen a Results Mindset
AI offers data. Humans provide direction.
A results mindset connects short-term actions to long-term purpose. Many young leaders struggle to stay focused when overwhelmed by tools or choices. But resilient leaders know what they’re aiming for—and why it matters.
Guide them to align their goals with their values, strengths, and sense of calling. This clarity keeps them focused. It helps them lead with authenticity in a tech-driven world. During these challenging times, your Next-Gen leader might need guidance to do this. In my eBook, Energize Your Dreams, I describe important action steps. These steps help them identify what they want and how to go after those goals.
Top Tip: Empower your leader to set one measurable goal aligned with their values. Clarity on their purpose fuels consistent action—something no algorithm can provide.
Final Thought: These Are the Mindsets That Matter
Like you, leaders worldwide share a common challenge: finding stability in the fast-paced world of AI. From Tanzania to France, they wonder how to lead when technology evolves so quickly.
The answer lies in one vital question: “What can I do to achieve the desired results and make a positive difference?”
This question contains five key mindsets that can keep you grounded:
- Accountability,
- Innovation,
- Ownership,
- Action, and
- Results.
In a time when AI brings speed and data, only character-driven leaders can offer vision, courage, and connection to create a meaningful future.
